tear (something) up

Definition: to pull something, such as paper or cloth, into many small pieces using your hands.
(This phrasal verb has more than one meaning)
E.g.1: She was so upset after she had read the letter that she tore it up.
E.g.2: He didn’t have any bandages so he tore his shirt up and used the pieces of cloth to cover the wound.
This phrasal verb can be separated. (E.g.1 and 2)
