Definition: to discover something by searching for it, often by guessing where it is.
E.g.1: I’m not sure where James’s new office is, exactly, but I’m sure I’ll be able to sniff it out for you!
E.g.2: She sniffed out a wonderful book of old photographs in that second-hand bookshop in Addington Street.
