kick off
Definition: to start a game of football by kicking the ball from the centre of the pitch. (There is also a noun – the kick-off. Eg. The kick-off is at 3 p.m.)

E.g.1: They scored the first goal just 1 minute after kicking off. E.g.2: That team is so bad that the only time they touch the ball is when they kick off.
