hunt (something / someone) down
Definition: to successfully find something or someone after searching. Usually used when the thing or person is difficult to find.
E.g.1: The criminal ran away and hid, but the police managed to hunt him down.
E.g.2: She had seen the shoes she wanted to buy, but couldn’t remember which shop she had seen them in, so she spent the afternoon hunting them down.
This phrasal verb can be separated. (E.g. 1 and 2)
