Freeze up

Definition: to become frozen and blocked as a result – usually used for water / liquids in a pipe, machine, river and other waterways
E.g.1: Some old English houses have their water pipes running down the outside of the building, so there is a serious risk that they freeze up in a very cold winter.
E.g.2: After the snowstorm, we shovelled snow for two hours until the car was clear and then we found the lock had frozen up so we could still not open the car.
This phrasal verb cannot be separated.
